Spectacle
Spring
2026
To appear, to be seen, to act, whether on purpose or not. This issue examines how we mold
ourselves when we are aware that we are being seen, as well as the gap between image and
identity. The art here explores performance, illusion, media culture, and self-presentation,
ranging from extravagant displaysto simple, everyday gestures. While some works resist,
blur, or completely dissolve the act of being observed, others lean toward it. Together, they
occupy that uncomfortable space where construction and authenticity are continuously
overlapping rather than distinct. We are appreciative of all the contributors whose work
explores these concepts with such depth and clarity. We appreciate your participation in
this issue and your submissions.
